According to Nielsen Google lost share of searches last month from 66.1% in June to 64.8% in July.

That sure makes a good headline and most everyone thinks that Bing must be having a major impact on the numbers.

However, digging a little deeper into the story you’ll learn that Nielsen changed their methodology to what they call MegaView Search and warn that you therefore can’t really trend July against anything they’ve done previously.

So, for now I’m still impressed that Google has 64.8% of the market and Yahoo, the next closest competitor, is at 17.1%.  Google can’t rest on their laurels and learning more about Caffeine confirms that they’re not.
